The U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut has jurisdiction over Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland, and Windham counties.

The District of Connecticut currently has thirteen United States District Judges and nine United States Magistrate Judges.

The Connecticut District has courthouse locations in Bridgeport, Hartford, and New Haven. The court in Bridgeport is located at the Brien McMahon Federal Building, 915 Lafayette Blvd., Bridgeport, CT 06604. The court in Hartford is located at the Abraham Ribicoff Federal Building, 450 Main St., Suite A012, Hartford, CT 06013. The court in New Haven is located at the Richard C. Lee U.S. Courthouse, 141 Church St., New Haven, CT 06510.

The Clerk of Court is the Hon. Dinah Milton Kinney. The Clerk of Court has three offices located at the Bridgerport, Hartford, and New Haven courthouses. The Clerk of Court can be reached by calling the Bridgeport office at (203) 579-5861, the Hartford office at (860) 240-3200, or the New Haven office at (203) 773-2140.

The Chief District Judge is the Hon. Michael P. Shea, who is located at the Abraham Ribicoff Federal Building in Hartford. The Chief Judge’s Chambers are located in Annex 135. You can reach the Chief Judge’s Chambers by calling (860) 240-3136.

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut is Vanessa Roberts Avery. Her office prioritizes a variety of federal crimes and suspected violations of federal law, including gun violence, human trafficking, cybercrimes, public corruption, and national security issues, amongst many others. Prior to her appointment as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, she led affirmative litigation and investigations on behalf of the State of Connecticut in the areas of antitrust, opioids, government program fraud, consumer protection, child protection, environment, energy, finance, privacy, and civil rights. PACER charges 10 cents per page and claims that these fees are capped at $3, but oftentimes the fees can be much higher for access to court transcripts.
