The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa has jurisdiction over Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Buena Vista, Calhoun, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Dickinson, Dubuque, Hamilton, Hardin, Humboldt, Ida, Iowa, Jackson, Kossuth, Linn, Lyon, Mitchell, Osceola, Plymouth, Pocahontas, Sioux, Winnebago, Winneshiek, and Woodbury counties.

The Northern District of Iowa currently has three United States District Judges and two United States Magistrate Judges.

The N.D. Iowa is divided into four divisions: the Cedar Rapids Division, covering Benton, Cedar, Hardin, Iowa, and Linn counties; the Central Division, covering Calhoun, Cerro Gordo, Hamilton, Humboldt, Kossuth, Pocahontas, and Winnebago counties; the Eastern Division, covering Allamakee, Black Hawk, Chickasaw, Dubuque, Jackson, Mitchell, and Winneshiek counties; and the Western Division, covering Buena Vista, Cherokee, Dickinson, Ida, Lyon, Osceola, Plymouth, Sioux, and Woodbury counties.

Clerk of Court

The Clerk of Court is the Hon. Paul De Young. The Clerk of Court can be reached in Cedar Rapids by calling (319) 286-2300 or in Sioux City by calling (712) 233-3903.

Chief District Judge

The Chief District Judge is the Hon. Leonard T. Strand. The Chief District Judge’s chambers are located in the U.S. District Court in Sioux City. The Chief District Judge can also be reached by calling (712) 233-3921.

U.S. Attorney

The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa is Timothy T. Duax. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Duax served as the Assistant United States Attorney (ASUA) in the Northern District of Iowa, where he also worked as Branch Chief and First Assistant United States Attorney. Mr. Duax also has extensive experience in prosecuting child exploitation cases and violent crimes.
